After the blockbuster success of Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020), actor-producer Ajay Devgn and director Om Raut are reportedly working on a sequel that continues to celebrate India’s unsung heroes. Sources suggest that Ajay Devgn is eager to cast Hrithik Roshan in a pivotal antagonist role, setting the stage for a highly anticipated collaboration between the two Bollywood superstars.
Plans for a Franchise Honoring Unsung Heroes
According to a report by Mid-Day, Ajay Devgn has long envisioned creating a film franchise dedicated to India’s forgotten warriors. Although the idea had been delayed due to other commitments, recent meetings between Devgn and Raut indicate that the sequel is now gaining momentum.
Initially, the focus was on a biopic of Maratha general Baji Prabhu Deshpande, renowned for his heroism during the Battle of Pavan Khind (1660). Deshpande’s ultimate sacrifice ensured the safe escape of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. However, the release of the Marathi film Pawankhind (2022), which explored the same story, has led Devgn and Raut to reconsider their approach.
“The discussions are still in the early stages,” said a source close to the project. “They haven’t completely ruled out a Baji Prabhu biopic, but they are also exploring other Maratha heroes. Significant research and groundwork for this film have already been completed.”
Hrithik Roshan to Play the Antagonist
Ajay Devgn, who will reprise his lead role, is reportedly keen on casting Hrithik Roshan as the antagonist in the sequel. If finalized, this will mark the first on-screen collaboration between Devgn and Roshan, generating considerable excitement among fans.
“Ajay believes Hrithik has an incredible screen presence and unparalleled charisma,” the source shared. “Combined with his acting skills, Hrithik would make a formidable rival to Ajay’s character. If everything falls into place, their on-screen dynamic will undoubtedly be one of the film’s major highlights.”
Returning Cast and Acclaimed Performances
Sharad Kelkar, who received widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Tanhaji, is expected to reprise the role in the sequel. Kelkar’s performance was hailed as one of the standout elements of the original film.
With its ambitious plans, star-studded casting, and focus on India’s rich history, the sequel to Tanhaji promises to be another cinematic milestone, capturing the courage and sacrifice of India’s forgotten warriors.
