Hold on to your popcorn because Bollywood’s master of blockbuster entertainment, Ali Abbas Zafar, is making a grand comeback to where it all began Yash Raj Films (YRF)! If you’ve been missing the adrenaline-pumping action and heart-pounding drama that Zafar is known for, get ready because the director behind mega-hits like Tiger Zinda Hai and Sultan is all set to team up with his old stomping ground for a series of high-octane, big-budget projects.
Zafar, who burst onto the scene with the 2011 rom-com Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, quickly became YRF’s go-to director for crafting films that are as entertaining as they are successful. Remember Gunday? That action-packed rollercoaster with Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor that had audiences cheering? Or how about Sultan, where Salman Khan wrestled his way into our hearts and box office records? And let’s not forget Tiger Zinda Hai, where Zafar took the YRF spy universe to thrilling new heights with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.
After tasting success, Zafar spread his wings, venturing into projects beyond the YRF umbrella. His film Bharat (2019), starring his favorite duo Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, was yet another hit. He then delivered the gripping Netflix drama Jogi (2022), showcasing his versatility with a tale of survival during the 1984 Delhi riots, and followed it up with the action-packed Bloody Daddy (2023), starring Shahid Kapoor.
But even the best have their off days, and Zafar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, despite its star-studded cast of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, didn’t quite hit the mark. However, every great director knows that a true comeback is about returning to your roots—and that’s exactly what Zafar is doing.
Now, Zafar is reuniting with his mentor, Aditya Chopra, at YRF for a new series of original theatrical projects. This reunion promises to be as exciting as a plot twist in a Zafar movie. Fans are buzzing with anticipation as the dynamic duo plans to craft the next big thing in Bollywood.
“Ali Abbas Zafar is a filmmaker who has gone on to make huge hit films at YRF like Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Sultan, Gunday, and Tiger Zinda Hai. So, this is an exciting development because Ali is technically returning to his alma mater,” a trade source shared with Variety. The insider added, “We are sure Ali will scale greater heights as he creatively collaborates with Aditya Chopra on multiple big-budget tentpole projects for YRF. The two haven’t yet locked the projects that Ali will now direct at YRF. But we can confirm that these will be original theatrical projects.”
So, get ready for Ali Abbas Zafar 2.0 bigger, bolder, and better than ever. With his return to YRF, we’re about to witness the next chapter in a cinematic journey that’s bound to be as thrilling as his films!
