Anushka Sharma posted a video of Gukesh’s father, Dr. Rajinikanth, discussing the sacrifices made for his son’s chess career on her Instagram Stories. “Sacrifice is a big word,” Dr. Rajinikanth stated in the video. Parents have a responsibility to provWhen he first started playing chess, I could work and pursue my job at the same time, and on the weekends, I would take him to tournaments or anything. We had to go overseas once he started to develop strength and rating. Someone has to keep practicing, and either my wife or I had to make the deliberate choice to go to competitions with him. My wife decided to provide financial assistance for the family, and I decided to travel with him. Any parent will naturally do this for their children. For us, it is not a huge concerns for their children if they have a skill.
Anushka Sharma posted the video with the remark, “Beautiful words by a champion parent.” In order to support the family, Rajinikanth had to resign from his prestigious position as an ENT surgeon. His wife, Padma, is a microbiologist.
