The Exasperating Experience of Watching ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha
We recently had the misfortune of sitting through the excruciatingly dull and uninspired film, ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’. Starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu, this supposed “old-school love story” is anything but romantic or nostalgic. Instead, it’s a tedious, plodding affair that fails to capture the imagination or stir the heart.
The plot, what little there is of it, revolves around Devgn’s character, Krishna, a man haunted by a tragic past. As the film unfolds, we are subjected to endless flashbacks and tedious exposition, as Krishna relives his ill-fated romance with the beautiful Vasudha (Tabu). The story is predictable, the characters are one-dimensional, and the dialogue is stilted and unnatural.
Despite the best efforts of the talented cast, the performances are lackluster at best. Devgn, usually a charismatic and engaging presence on screen, appears bored and disinterested throughout the film. Tabu, too, is wasted in a role that requires little more than looking forlorn and occasionally shedding a few tears.
The direction by Neeraj Pandey is uninspired and lackluster. There is no sense of pacing or rhythm, and the film drags on for what feels like an eternity. The cinematography is flat and uninspired, with no visual flair or creativity to speak of. It is shocking for us to know that he is the same man who directed classics like A Wednesday, Baby And Special Chabbis.
The music, by the usually reliable M.M Keeravani, is forgettable and unmemorable. The songs do little to enhance the film or provide any emotional resonance.
In short, ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ is a film that fails on almost every level. It’s a tedious, uninspired, and ultimately forgettable experience that is not thrilling nor romantic and will leave you feeling frustrated and underwhelmed. If you’re looking for a film that will entertain, inspire, or move you, this is not
