In a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on New Year’s Day, Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh stated his opinion that India has the capacity to hold music festivals bigger than Coachella. The conference, which took place at the Prime Minister’s home, was centered on India’s cultural legacy, music, and culture. PM Modi repeated Dosanjh’s aim for India to become a global center for festivals and music.
Culture, Music, and India’s Potential Worldwide
PM Modi asked Dosanjh about his experiences abroad, especially his Coachella performance in April 2023, during their talk. “I think Coachella and other festivals have reached great heights, but I think we can create something even bigger in India,” Dosanjh retorted. For such events, people travel from all over the world. Dosanjh emphasized India’s natural musical aptitude, saying that even those without formal training frequently have remarkable musical skills.
He revealed, “The melody is so lovely that I feel like I should stop singing, whether we are eating at a dhaba or listening to someone sing in Rajasthani. Even though they are not professionals, these people outperform me. That is how rich Indian art is.
PM Modi’s Creative Revolution Vision
Prime Minister Modi concurred with Dosanjh’s observations and stated his intention to use the forthcoming World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES), which is scheduled for February 5–9, to highlight India’s creative potential. The majority of the world’s movies are produced in our vast nation. The largest creative industry is in India. The Prime Minister stated, “I want to launch a global movement through WAVES to establish India as the hub of the creative world.”
PM Modi also recalled talking to former German Chancellor Angela Merkel about India’s rich musical heritage. I informed her that the music played in India before sunrise differs from that played after daybreak. We have music for any occasion, whether it’s joyful or sorrowful. Our diversity captivated her,” he stated.
Thinking Back on His India Tour, Diljit Dosanjh
Dosanjh also discussed his most recent “Dil-Luminati India Tour,” which came to an end on December 31 in Ludhiana. “We performed in so many cities, and it reaffirmed my belief in the greatness of India,” he remarked, referring to it as the biggest tour ever undertaken by an Indian singer. When I traveled to several cities, I realized why we say “Mera Bharat Mahaan.”
