Earlier this week, Maddock Films revealed their exciting upcoming slate, including the highly hoped Stree 3, which is set to hit theaters on August 13, 2027. Akshay Kumar, who made a memorable appearance in Stree 2, is set to return for the third installment. At the trailer launch of Sky Force, Akshay teased his involvement in the Stree universe, joking about his “dedh” (second) collaboration with producer Dinesh Vijan. When asked if he would be part of the horror-comedy franchise, Akshay humorously remarked that the decision lay with Dinesh and Jyoti Deshpande, the producers who are funding the films.
However, Akshay dropped a major hint about his return to the Stree universe, mentioning that director Amar Kaushik, who helmed Stree 2, would be at the helm for the third film. Reacting to Akshay’s comments, Dinesh confirmed the news, playfully dubbing him the “Thanos” of the Maddock horror-comedy universe.
Akshay’s role in Stree 2 was a highlight, where he made a surprise cameo as a descendent of Chandra Bhan, a drunken, chauvinist patriarch from Chanderi. His character, found in a mental asylum, provided both humor and intrigue, sporting a blonde wig and delivering quirky lines while helping the gang solve problems. His appearance left fans eager for more, and the film hinted that Akshay would take on a larger, supervillainous role in the upcoming Stree 3.
With Stree 2 becoming one of the biggest blockbusters of 2024, the addition of Akshay Kumar to the franchise has certainly set the stage for even more excitement and intrigue in the next project.
