The trailer for Call Me Bae has dropped, and it’s already causing quite a stir. Ananya Panday plays Bella ‘Bae’ Chowdhary, an heiress from South Delhi, whose life is simply more spectacular than Gossip Girl. The motto for her is “Think seven luxury cars, a chopper, a fairytale wedding” only to have everything crash down faster than saying “designer handbags.”.
Now, this is where things get juicy. Bae’s fall from grace lands her in the heart of Mumbai, where she goes from being dripped in Dior to scrambling for rent. Produced by the Karan Johar, this series is a loud-hitting, vibrant blend of fashion and drama with a good dosage of humor done right promising to hold on to those viewers right there.
Ananya Panday brings on all sass and style as Bae, nailing the role of the clueless rich girl who suddenly has to figure out how the “other half” lives. Of course, this isn’t just trading in her Louboutins for loafers this is a full-on transformation story. That trailer gives us a wild ride of self-discovery, where Bae trades her designer handbags in for a work tote, but somehow keeps up with that tradename glam.
But that is not all, quite literally. Is this cherry on the icing of this trailer? That one nod to that memorable moment when Siddhant Chaturvedi gave it to Ananya about the “struggles.” It’s humor like this that sets up the show’s tone with lots of witty one-liners and some potshots at the elite.
The supporting cast looks most promising, with Vir Das and Gurfateh Pirzada stepping in as Bae’s bosses, while Varun Sood and Vihaan Samat will probably be the love interests we all signed up for. This lot does seem ready to dish out some charm, laughs, and perhaps a few tears as Bae navigates her new reality.
The trailer, at one level, is exactly something that one would expect from a Dharma production: all bright colors, sleek settings, and wardrobe to die for till Bae’s world shifts and the glitz gives way to the gritty streets of Mumbai. It is this contrast that signals Bae’s journey from riches to relative rags and gives an indication that we are in for a visual treat.
Surely this series gives a touch of the famous Netflix series “Emily in Paris” as per its glam and wardrobe choices.
Well, in other words, Call Me Bae is going to be an engrossing affair drama, humor, and style all blend in together to make your next guilty pleasure. What would it turn into the Indian counterpart of 2 Broke Girls or something else? Well, we guess that be besides the point. Though one thing’s for sure Ananya Panday is all ready to storm the digital world, and boy, are we here for it! Note down September 6th and will be streaming on Amazon Prime because Bae is coming, it is going to be marvelous!
