Following her criticism of fellow actor Dhanush for bringing a Rs 10 crore lawsuit against her upcoming Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale, Nayanthara’s new open letter has sparked a flurry of controversy. A three-second behind-the-scenes video from the movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan that is shown in the trailer for Nayanthara’s documentary is the main source of disagreement. This dispute has gone viral on social media. Dhanush’s attorney has now addressed the matter in a statement.
“My client is the producer of the film and they know where they have spent every penny for the production of the film,” Dhanush’s lawyer said in the statement. The claim made by your client that my client has not hired anyone to record the behind-the-scenes video is unfounded. Your client must provide rigorous evidence of the same.
Dhanush’s attorney also emphasized how unclear the other party’s statement was, especially with reference to who owned the BTS video. The lawyer asserts that Dhanush, as the producer, is the rightful owner of the video, not the person who took it. Nayanthara and her crew have been advised by the legal team to take the documentary’s purportedly illegal material down. Dhanush would have to file a lawsuit against Nayanthara and Netflix India for Rs 10 crore in damages if he didn’t cooperate within 24 hours.
The statement ended by noting, “Advise your client to take down the content infringing my client’s copyright over the film ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ by using the same in your client’s documentary ‘Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale’ within 24 hours, failing which my client will be forced to initiate appropriate legal action, including but not limited to seeking damages to a sum of Rs 10 crores against your client and Netflix India“.
In her open letter, Dhanush accused Nayanthara of copyright infringement, which sparked the dispute. She clarified that her team had been working hard to get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) so that the documentary could use the content from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. Nayanthara’s letter emphasized the legal challenges and disappointments they encountered as a result of Dhanush’s opposition.
