Bollywood is buzzing, not just because of new releases it’s the drama stealing the show. Alia Bhatt’s latest film Jigra hit theaters on October 11, but with a modest opening of just Rs 3.58 crore (net) on day one, the buzz quickly fizzled. Of course, where there’s a flickering flame, there’s Kangana Ranaut ready to pour some gasoline, and this time she isn’t alone Divya Khosla Kumar has jumped right into the fire.
Kangana, queen of cryptic messages and controversy, took to Instagram with a post that screamed subtle but not really. “When you destroy women-centric films and make sure that they don’t work, they don’t work, even when you make them. Read that again. Thanks,” she wrote. No names were dropped, but let’s be real everyone knows exactly who she’s talking about. With Jigra being a women-led narrative starring Alia, fans quickly connected the dots.
If this feels like déjà vu, it’s because Kangana’s beef with Alia is nothing new. Before Gangubai Kathiawadi was released, Kangana labeled it a “200-crore disaster” and called Alia a “romcom bimbo.” Turns out, Gangubai laughed all the way to the bank. Oops. But hey, why let facts get in the way of some good old-fashioned shade?
Just when things couldn’t get spicier, along comes Divya Khosla Kumar with a mic-drop moment of her own. She posted a photo of an empty Jigra screening and didn’t mince her words: “#Aliabhatt me sach mein Bahut #Jigra hai… khud hi tickets karide aur fake collections announce kar diye.” Translation? She accused Alia of buying her tickets to boost box office numbers. Oh, and she threw in a cheeky hashtag for good measure—#HappyDussehra indeed!
This isn’t just random shade there’s some backstory here. Divya’s film Savi, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Anil Kapoor, also features a jailbreak plot, just like Jigra. While Divya insists both movies are different, the comparisons keep coming. And if Savi’s success on OTT platforms is anything to go by, Divya’s not too worried about the competition.
And of course, no Bollywood controversy would be complete without Karan Johar’s touch of cryptic elegance. In response to Divya’s rant, Karan posted, “Silence is the best speech you will ever give to fools.” Classy, subtle, and dripping with sass just how Karan likes it.
Meanwhile, Jigra continues to battle it out at the box office, with Alia playing Satya Anand, a brave sister on a mission to free her tortured brother from a foreign prison. Despite the promising premise and a talented supporting cast, the film’s rough start has raised questions about the fate of women-driven stories in Bollywood.
As the drama unfolds, one thing is clear whether Jigra makes a comeback or not, this Bollywood catfight has already delivered the entertainment we didn’t know we needed.
