It would appear that Cupid has finally struck where it hurts the most-Bollywood. Not only will our resident action hero be swapping punches for poetry on the screen but also doing so in his next love story under the banner of Maddock Films. After a whirlwind of action-packed roles that left him more bruised than beloved by the box office, Sidharth Malhotra is ready to put down the guns and pick up a bouquet.
For such a romantic drive, what better company than Janhvi Kapoor? This young starlet has been drawing both hearts and applause for her recent performances in Mr & Mrs Mahi and Ulajh. She gets to share the screen for the first time with Malhotra. And to helm this yet-untitled project is Tushar Jalota, the man behind Dasvi, hence promisingly offering a refreshing take on romance, quite different from what these two actors usually do.
Now, coming to the hero of our story-Sidharth Malhotra. And sure as hell, his last few forays into action have been nothing to write home about. His OTT debut with the Indian Police Force didn’t exactly arrest the attention of the audience, while Yodha didn’t exactly fly high. And let’s not even get started on Mitti because, well, Malhotra isn’t either. He has moved away from that film and instead opted for the rosy embrace of a love story.
This is indeed a smart move. The audience, after all, had first fallen in love with Malhotra in Student Of The Year where he played the downright charming underdog who would have any girl swooning. Then there was Ek Villain, where he added a hint of danger to the charm. But it was Shershaah that sealed his position in Bollywood’s A-list-a film in which he wasn’t only playing a soldier but a lover, too. And not to mention, his co-star in that film is now his better half, Kiara Advani, whose career has been on a meteoric rise post-marriage. The power of love or simply good career management? You be the judge.
The post-wedding glow, so to say, has indeed been only skin-deep for Kiara since she has bagged some of the biggest projects in her career, including, of course, the most-talked-about ‘Don 3’. Perhaps Sidharth hopes that a wee bit of that marital magic may rub off on him, too, as he sails into this new romantic territory with Janhvi.
The film turns out to be a great opportunity for Janhvi to prove her mettle opposite a seasoned actor like Sidharth. It is a chance to remind audiences why they fell in love with Sidharth in the first place.
So, will this new on-screen pairing prove to be a match made in box-office heaven? Only time will tell. But one thing’s for sure Malhotra and Kapoor are ready to rewrite their Bollywood stories, one love scene at a time.
