Malayalam cinema legend Mammootty sure knows how to keep his fans hooked, and on his 73rd birthday, he did just that. The energetic and ever-young legend, who does not show any signs of slowing down, gave his fans a birthday gift they would never forget the first look at his next, Dominic and The Ladies’ Purse produced under his banner, Mammootty Kampany. This new project has sent the internet into a frenzy already.
The poster was shared by the superstar himself on X, and, well, let’s just say that this is first-look stuff taken to a whole new level. Mammootty is seen casually sporting a bathrobe while an open ladies’ purse ominously lies strewn on the floor. Scattered items hint at a mystery just begging to be unraveled as a cat nonchalantly strolls by. The background of the poster adds to the suspense, with a James Bond poster, sticky notes, and a pinboard full of photographs. Is this Mammootty’s take on a detective thriller? We can’t be certain as of now, but it sure does appear like that!
From the man himself, Gautham Vasudev Menon, this stylish, suspense-laden first look carries all the cards of a thrilling ride. Mammootty’s cryptic caption to introduce the first-look poster, which read, “Presenting the First Look Poster of Dominic and The Ladies’ Purse,” added to the intrigue.
Produced by Mammootty Kampany, it is the production No. 6 of the company. Additionally, much is expected from the promising team that involves Sooraj R. and Neeraj R. for the screenplay. Filming has been going on since July in Kochi and Munnar, and the more the project nears completion, the more speculations arise.
The rest of the cast is pretty interesting, too: Gokul Suresh, Lena, and Viji Venkatesh-known for their energetic performances-are in pivotal roles; this apart, Ramesh Pisharati and Lena were even privileged enough to give the first clap on the sets. Behind the camera, Vishnu Dev handles the cinematography, while the music is by the talented Darbuka Siva. Is this going to be another hit in Mammootty’s legendary career?
Apart from this, Bazooka by Deeno Dennis is in Mammootty’s kitty, scheduled for a release in 2024. With an ensemble star cast including Gautham Vasudev Menon and Babu Antony, the actor looks unstoppable.
Off-screen, Mammootty continues to make headlines for all the right powerful statements. Recently, he spoke in support of the recommendations brought out by the Hema Committee report that pointed at the abysmal condition and sexual harassment women face in the Malayalam film industry. “It is time for all associations in the film industry to join hands and implement them,” Mammootty said.
If that was not enough, he also won his 15th Filmfare this year for Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. On top of that, add the positive reviews of Kaathal: The Core and one can see why this star is truly still on top.
