The esteemed Dadasaheb Phalke Award has been given to Mithun Chakraborty. The veteran actor first rose to fame in the 1980s and 90s after taking home the National Film Award for Best Actor in 1976 for his feature debut, Mrigayaa. His signature dancing moves from the 1982 single Disco Dancer catapulted him to stardom, and he went on to star in films such as Aakhri Ghulam, Prem Pratigyaa, Ilaaka, Daata, and Mujrim. Disco Dancer, his film, brought him fame in Russia.
In addition, Mithun won a National Film Award for his roles in Swami Vivekananda (1996) and Tahader Katha (1992). He was able to succeed in a variety of genres, such as comedy and action, because to his versatility. The actor played supporting roles in a number of comedic dramas, such as Oh My God and Golmal. Outside of the movie industry, Mithun gained recognition for his roles in hit TV series including Dance India Dance, Dadagiri, Bigg Boss Bangla, and Grandmaster.
He is an active politician who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2021 after formerly belonging to the Trinamool Congress.
Mithun, aged 74, was born on June 16, 1950, to Basanata Kumar Chakraborty and Shanti Rani. He had a turbulent upbringing as an advocate of the Naxal philosophy before going back to his family following his brother’s terrible electrocution in an odd accident.
Actress Helena Luke and Mithun Chakraborty were married in 1979, but they separated after just four months. He wed Yogeeta Bali, an actress, later that year. They are parents to four children together: Mimoh, Ushmey, Namashi, and Dishani Chakraborty, their adopted daughter. The actor was admitted to the hospital in February 2024 due to chest problems, but he was released after two days.
