The excitement surrounding Pushpa: The Rule is nothing short of extraordinary. Across India, including North India where South films are gaining immense popularity, the buzz is huge. Fans and the trade are eagerly waiting for the release of the sequel to the blockbuster Pushpa. With Allu Arjun’s massive fan base and the success of the first film, expectations are sky-high.
Reports suggest that Pushpa 2 has already made an astounding ₹900-1000 crore in pre-release business. Its OTT rights have been sold to Netflix for a historic ₹250 crore, signaling how much anticipation there is for the film. This kind of pre-release buzz is rare and sets the stage for a massive box office run when it hits theaters.
On December 6th, Pushpa 2 is slated to clash with Vicky Kaushal starrer Chhaava, a film about the Great Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj of Maratha Empire. However, with Pushpa 2’s massive popularity, Chhaava could struggle at the box office. For a film of its scale, Chhaava would need to earn ₹200 crore to be considered a hit domestically. But the comparison to Bajirao Mastani, another film about the Maratha Empire, puts additional pressure on Chhaava. Film will also struggle to have a good release across India as Anil Thadani, distributor of Pushpa has already secured massive screens for the film in north India by clubbing it with Bhool Bhulaiyaa2.
Allu Arjun’s star power and the value of the Pushpa franchise could make it difficult for Chhaava to even open strongly. In a clash scenario and lesser shows count, Chhaava could even struggle to collect ₹10-12 crore on its opening day, a low figure for a big-budget film. With such competition, Chhaava could face a tough time at the box office while Pushpa 2 could spell history at the box office east west north south.
