Sarfira Fails to Impress at the Global Box Office: A Major Setback for Akshay Kumar as the superstar delivered his 9th Box Office disaster in the span of 4 Years
Akshay Kumar’s latest outing, Sarfira, has struggled tremendously at the worldwide box office, concluding its run with dismal numbers. Despite being a highly anticipated release, the film has turned out to be a colossal disappointment, grossing below expectations in every major market.
Released on July 12th, Sarfira is the Hindi adaptation of the acclaimed Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, directed by Sudha Kongara. The original, featuring Suriya, was a massive hit, raising high hopes for its Hindi remake. However, Sarfira failed to replicate that success. Opening day collections were a paltry 3 crore nett, signaling the film’s grim future. Despite positive reviews from critics and initial favorable word-of-mouth, the film’s performance at the box office remained lackluster.
The Indian box office saw Sarfira grossing just 23 crores nett in 15 days, translating to a domestic gross of 27.14 crores after taxes. The overseas market fared no better, contributing a mere 4.5 crores gross. In total, the worldwide gross stands at a disappointing 31.64 crores, far below the anticipated mark of 40 crores.
The film’s trajectory was marred from the start, with weak weekday earnings that even a decent weekend growth couldn’t salvage. The initial buzz and the star power of Akshay Kumar couldn’t draw audiences to theaters, leading to a rapid decline in screen counts as theaters opted for other, more promising titles.
As Sarfira limps towards the end of its theatrical run, it’s clear that the film has failed to connect with audiences both domestically and internationally. Akshay Kumar, who has had a string of box office hits, now faces a significant setback. His next release, Khel Khel Mein, scheduled for August 15th, will be crucial in determining if he can bounce back from this debacle.
The poor performance of Sarfira underscores the unpredictable nature of the film industry, where not even a superstar’s presence can guarantee success. All eyes will now be on Akshay’s next project to see if he can reclaim his box office mojo.
