Netflix has spared no effort in presenting a spine-thrilling thriller under the name Sector 36, featuring Vikrant Massey and Deepak Dobriyal in the main lead. Bold and different from his previous roles, Vikrant Massey unleashes a new side in this manipulative, twisted character of Prem Singh. Speaking on the same, Vikrant said, “Playing a layered, terrifying killer who could easily pass off as fitting into the crowd was a huge challenge taken by me. This is a character quite unlike anything I have done before, and I hope audiences share that tension we have worked hard to create.”.
Deepak Dobriyal’s versatility lends gravitas to the role of Inspector Ram Charan. About the film, Deepak says, “The script nailed it for me on page one. This film pinpoints class disparity and how crime can fester when society chooses to look away.”.
While the names of influences are not clearly stated, the plot of Sector 36 smells similar to the chilling real-life stories that have happened, mainly the 2006 Noida serial murders, also known as the Nithari killings. This only makes it more haunting, with a layer of grim real scenarios building into the fictional story.
Helmed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and produced along with Jio Studios, Sector 36 has the makings of an in-your-face, intense visual-emotional ride. A story by Bodhayan Roychaudhury, it underlines the sub-kosmos of criminal activities that breed in the slum underbelly of a city like Sector 36.
