Judges Shreya Ghoshal and Badshah of Indian Idol 15 discuss their differing perspectives when choosing hopefuls in an exclusive interview with pinkvilla.
Indian Idol is about to premiere its fifteenth season. Thousands of aspiring singers have been given a platform to express their skills on the well-known singing reality program, which is judged by Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani, and Badshah. We have an exclusive conversation with Shreya Ghoshal and Badshah ahead of the reality show’s premiere.
In her conversation with us, Shreya Ghoshal revealed how the judges’ viewpoints diverge when choosing the vocalists. Bohot alag alag, is what she tells us. When he saw that, Vishal said, “Bilkul theek nahi hain,” and so on. Indeed, it is huya hain. (It has occurred to me many times when I truly admire someone, and Vishal says, ‘That’s definitely not right.’) “Abhi tak hota hain ayesa?” asks Badshah, breaking the silence. Meher dekh raha hota, mereko lagta hain yaar mujhe toh achha lag raha hain, phir ekdum se Vishal sir kahega, “Bakwas hain.” Mujhe toh lagta hain mere saath hi hota hain.(Is this still the case? It seems like it’s exclusive to me. When I would be viewing and thinking, “I really like this,” Vishal Sir would abruptly declare, “It’s rubbish.”
“Toh hum kya karte hain, mujhe lagta hain iske aaj, mein na pehle mic le leti hu ki mein pehle bolungi,” the singer of Moh Moh Ke Dhage says. No, we can’t keep putting off the inevitable. I’ll tell you now that you’re good before he takes on your case. Sunao tumhara jo hain uske baad sunao. (So, in order to speak first, I now grab the microphone first. If not, the poor child’s face falls flat. I’ll let you know that you’re fine before he takes on your case. You are then free to express your opinions.)
She continues, saying, “What’s needed is that Vishal is brutally honest.” When it comes to music, honesty is lacking, but we can still feel the same way about a bubble. After all, karwa saach toh sunna padhega. They really need to know. It is useless for them to remain in their own bubble if there is no honesty in music. The hard reality must be told to them.)””However, I am aware of the place’s energy, which can be unsettling.” It’s humanly impossible sometimes, but it’s also doable in other situations. For example, bus pakadke, phr itna lamba wait, bahar kitni lambi queue hoti hain, phir thake huye, bhuke pet, phir aapka opportunity aaya, aur usme aapko aapka best dena hain. I know this because my toh us daur se bhi guzri hu. Ghoshal states, “Phir karwa sach toh sunna hi hain.”
(People travel great distances after such a long journey, boarding busses, waiting in line for a very long time. When their chance presents itself, they have to seize it with all of their might even if they are exhausted and hungry. Sometimes it’s just not humanly possible. I understand how it feels, having gone through that stage myself. They still have to hear the unpleasant reality, though.)
She continues by saying that just a small number of the thousands of applicants chosen each year for Indian Idol are chosen. She thinks that it requires a great deal of responsibility and that they do it from the heart. “Indian Idol is like the IIT, IIM, AIIMS of singing,” continues Badshah. Indian idols are our faith, khud mein.
On October 26, Indian Idol 15 will make its television debut. It will air every weekend at 9 PM on Sony TV.
