Lights, camera, and a last-minute switch! Maddock Films Dinesh Vijan has done a bold about-face by axing his previously planned thriller titled Spider and gearing up for a brand new romantic comedy instead. The movie will feature none other than the charming duo – Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor- marking their very first on-screen collaboration. News of this unexpected pairing has been floating around some time back, but the film is ready to roll officially!
The original plan as shared by exclusive industry insiders was that of a gritty, pulse-pounding thriller that had Dasvi fame Tushar Jalota at the wheel. That has all changed, though, and with it, the audience’s preferences too. Soon, the team realized that thrillers do not pack the punch they used to at the box office anymore, as most of those thrills are accessed through OTT platforms.
“During the brainstorming process, Dinesh and Sidharth realized that the thriller wouldn’t attract the footfall they needed. So, they decided to hit refresh and explore lighter, feel-good storylines,” a source revealed. After several brainstorming sessions, they locked in a rom-com script, which Janhvi Kapoor eagerly approved. And voila a new movie was born, tentatively titled Param Sundari, borrowing its name from a hit Maddock song featuring Kriti Sanon.
Details of the plot are all kept under wraps, but makers claim that the film is a heartwarming family-centric romantic comedy pretty much similar to Maddock’s earlier hit Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. Sizzling chemistry is what the fans would get from Sidharth and Janhvi, and the ensemble cast would add flavor to the narrative. The movie is already in pre-production and will hit floors by November or December.
This would mark Sidharth’s first collaboration with Maddock Films while being a special milestone for Janhvi as she reunites with the banner after the not-so-memorable Roohi. For him, this would also be a return to rom-coms, as he hasn’t attempted anything in the genre ever since his 2012 debut Student of the Year. Fans who felt let down by his recent actioner Yodha can look forward to something entirely fresh.
This would mean that Janhvi Kapoor’s year is going to be busy, as she wraps up her commitments for Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, opposite Varun Dhawan, and another drama with Ishaan Khatter, helmed by Neeraj Ghaywan. On the other hand, Sidharth Malhotra is looking to emerge from the lukewarm response for Yodha and plans to add this new gem to his kitty.
All the indicators are here that it is going to be a refreshing fun ride, and Param Sundari is already making ripples among fans. Unusual title or Sid and Janhvi as an unlikely couple: whatever the reason for this, it is going to be one of Maddock’s most awaited ventures. All set for this romantic comedy, family drama, and above all, some anticipated fun at the theatres?
