Recently, Imtiaz Ali discussed his 2011 film Rockstar. The director disclosed that he began revising the script after losing it because Ranbir Kapoor insisted on appearing in the film. One of Imtiaz Ali’s films that catapulted him to stardom in Bollywood was Rockstar. The critically acclaimed film gained so much popularity that, in response to public demand, it was rereleased in theatres early this year after over ten years of absence. Although Ranbir Kapoor was excellent in the role of Jordan, it’s not as well-known that Ali has approached the actor about working on another project.
It was during their conversation with Mid-Day when Imtiaz Ali revealed he was set to direct the film Rockstar. However, for whatever reason, it was never produced. Still, there were discussions about it and word of the story was getting around in the small group of people. But he began working on it years later. Thereafter, he ran into Ranbir Kapoor at a screening. The celebrities briefly conversed at the occasion before meeting.
Ali went to meet Kapoor with the other movie’s script. But the actor was so obsessed with the Rockstar storyline that he asked the director about it. Furthermore, he was so engrossed in the musical drama that the actor from Animal began telling the director the tale of the movie. Imtiaz felt he was the ideal choice for the role after witnessing his impassioned retelling of the tale. Thus, he enquired if he would like to participate, to which Ranbir Kapoor gave an affirmative response. At the end of the meeting, Imtiaz promised to bring the Rockstar script back to the actor.
However, the screenplay was nowhere to be discovered since the director had misplaced it. He had to write it over as a result. Imtiaz said, “I rewrote it from memory.” Along with Aditi Rao Hydari, Piyush Mishra, Shernaz Patel, Kumud Mishra, Sanjana Sanghi, Aakash Dahiya, and Shammi Kapoor, the 2011 film also stars Nargis Fakhri. Regarding Imtiaz Ali, he directed the popular film Amar Singh Chamkila. The biographical drama film, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, debuted on Netflix on April 12, 2024. Regarding Ranbir Kapoor, he is in the process of filming Ramayana, his next project. Under Nitesh Tiwari’s direction, Sai Pallavi and Yash play important parts.Credit : Pinkvilla
