Re-releases are in style this season! To the joy of movie enthusiasts, Bollywood flicks that captured hearts and went on to become cult classics are making a reappearance in theaters years after their original release. The most recent movies to return to theaters on Friday the 13th is Veer-Zaara (2004), Tujhe Meri Kasam (2003), and Tumbbad (2018). It’s obvious that the audience has a ton of options, and we movie buffs couldn’t be happier! Tumbbad, starring Sohum Shah, is the one re-release that has left fans feeling quite moved. Audiences are wondering why this folk horror movie did not receive an Oscar nomination after seeing it again.
In case you had forgotten, the 2019 film Gully Boy, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, was chosen as India’s official submission for the 92nd Academy Awards, namely in the Best International Feature Film category. It wasn’t shortlisted, though. Several fans were devastated that Gully Boy had won an Oscar instead of Tumbbad even back then. One social media user tweeted following today’s re-release, saying, “#Tumbbad is a masterpiece that deserves all the accolades.” The story, direction, and acting are all excellent. Another admirer said, “Those who sent #GullyBoy to the OSCAR instead of this should be ashamed of themselves because it was the GOLDEN CHANCE for Indian Film industry to bring OSCAR HOME! ” Another commented, “It’s a shame that it wasn’t sent to the Oscars instead of #GullyBoy.”
In the meantime, another fan posted, “Rating (4.5) I watched #Tumbbad again tonight after a few years away, and I’m still not sure why India wasn’t given an official Oscar submission. This outstanding work of art merits international acclaim!”
Meanwhile, a different unsatisfied moviegoer commented, “Rating (4.5) After a few years away, I saw #Tumbbad again tonight, and I’m still baffled as to why India wasn’t officially nominated for an Oscar. This magnificent piece of art deserves recognition on a global scale!
