Actor Sohum Shah revealed that a sequel to Tumbbad is formally under development amidst much excitement over the film’s successful re-release in theaters. The actor discussed how the movie varies from previous folk horror movies as well as the current Munjya and Stree horror movie franchise in a recent interview with India Today.
What Sohum highlighted
Sohum emphasized in the interview how Tumbbad differs from other horror movies, such as Stree and Munjya, which are also based on mythology. He declared, “I don’t see any issues with that. Those movies aren’t the same. They’re all not like Tumbbad. These stories differ greatly from one another. Dadi-nani ki kahaniyaan, or stories from our grandmothers, is not being made. Our narrative is not set in the present era. Our movie is set in the past and concludes there. We possess a monster, a rakshas. They don’t deal with those kinds of things.”
“With the kind of love and support that you guys have given to Tumbbad, I think it will now be easy to make Tumbbad 2,” Sohum continued when discussing the upcoming Tumbbad sequel. We have not yet locked the script and are still in the pre-production phase. After it is finished, we will search for the appropriate support.”
Stree 2, the sequel to 2018’s Stree, is part of the Maddock Films horror comedy universe. Munjya, starring Sharvari, Abhay Verma, and Mona Singh, also released earlier this year. Tumbbad, directed by Rahi Anil Barve, follows a man’s search for a hidden 20th-century treasure in the Indian village of Tumbbad. The film has broken box office records with its gripping storyline and excellent performances.
