Mumbai, August 31 – This September, the much-loved folk horror thriller Tumbbad is returning to theatres. On September 13, the movie, which was directed by Rahi Anil Barve, will be rereleased. The re-issue date was originally set for August 30, however it has been moved up by two weeks. With a brand-new poster, the creators revealed the re-release date on Saturday.The movie’s main character, Vinayak Rao (Sohum Shah), is shown on the poster walking through the night with his little son Pandurang (Mohammad Samad), a lantern in hand, and a sense of the paranormal surrounding them.
Produced by Sohum Shah, Aanand L. Rai, Mukesh Shah, Amita Shah, and Mitesh Shah, the film depicts the tale of Rao’s spiral into avarice as he searches for a fabled wealth that is being guarded by a villainous creature known as Hastar. When Tumbbad debuted in October 2018, critics praised it as the best folk horror film ever produced in Indian history. Against a 5 crore budget, it made about 13 crores at the box office in India.
