Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson will be reprising their roles as Moana and Maui, respectively. Variety reports that the sequel will take set three years after the events of the first 2016 movie.According to the outlet, Cravalho performed the new song from the movie We’re Back at the previously stated event to thunderous cheers from the 12,000 Disney enthusiasts in attendance. Johnson joined her as well, and he enthralled the audience by having everyone yell Cheeehoooo twice. According to the actor, it’s a very charged statement in Polynesian culture.
Taking the mic again, Cravalho revealed that, most excitingly, Moana will also play the role of a loving big sister when we see her again in November. She will be a leader of the land and the sea. Regarding the character she voices, she remarked, “When she’s not in big sister mode, she spends her time searching nearby islands for evidence that there are more people.”Johnson interjected, adding of his character, “And Maui is singing again. Singing in keys that don’t exist.”
The Rock joked that his hair looks fantastic in Moana 2 before adding, “This will be Maui and Moana’s most exciting journey yet.”Disney’s official synopsis reads, “Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced, after receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors.” But in the most recent Moana movie, a new antagonist who can control storms makes an appearance and vows to make Maui and her adventures even more terrifying. But why is the moon connected to the new villain? I suppose fans will find out when the much anticipated Disney sequel opens in theatres across the globe on November 27. For those who are unaware, the Mouse House is also developing a live-action Moana version.
