Millions of people all throughout the country have fallen in love with Ugly Ali’s voice. Everything he sang, whether it was for independent albums or Hindi movies, became popular. He began his career as an indie pop artist in India with the album Sunoh. In 2000, he made his Bollywood playback singing debut with the song “Na Tum Jano Na Hum” from the film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. He also attempted acting with Sur before going back to singing.
But he bid farewell to Bollywood after singing Safarnama from the 2015 movie Tamasha. Throwback Thursday and his 66th birthday both serve as opportunities to reflect on the reasons for his career-defining decision. It’s interesting to note that, after nine years with Tu Hai Kahan from Do Aur Do Pyaar, he returned to playback singing this year.
He stated, “Is jagah mein badtameezi bahut hai” (This place has a lot of contempt) in a previous interview. Bollywood has evolved. I don’t think there’s much to learn from the films that are being created these days because they lack inspiration.”
Additionally, he mentioned that he didn’t like the movies that were being produced at the time. He said, “People are becoming violent because they are inspired by what is being showcased in the movies, which is having a negative impact on society.” I think movies are encouraging greater avarice and less tolerance.”
