One of the most spoken-about and highly publicized cinematic events recently, Nitesh Tiwari’s epic Ramayana will bring together an enviable star cast for its immensely grand retelling of the age-old saga. The film reportedly started shooting in March 2024 and has already seen Ranbir Kapoor almost complete his portion as Lord Ram. With all preparations in full swing, Yash gears up to slip into the powerful role of Ravana, commencing from December 2024 onward, while Sunny Deol takes to the role of Hanuman from Summer 2025 onward.
Yash, known for his power-packed performances and enigmatic screen presence, went through exhaustive look tests to get his portrayal of Ravana perfect. Sources close to the production confirm that the actor is gearing up to dive deep into the multi-layered character of the demon king. “Yash has been heavily involved in the prep work and is very excited to explore one of the toughest roles he has taken up so far,” informs a source. His shoot is expected to start immediately after he finishes the big work on Geethu Mohandas’ Toxic.
Sunny Deol, who has just wrapped up shooting for Border 2, will reportedly join the unit in mid-2025 to start shooting his character of Lord Hanuman. The veteran actor is said to have blocked three months of dates for the film to give adequate time to get into the skin of the character. The team wants to shoot a few crucial scenes with Sunny Deol and Ranbir Kapoor, capturing the epic clashes and friendships that make up the story of Ramayana.
Already, the VFX work is in full swing for Ramayana: Part One, considering that the team has painstakingly worked on the shot sequences. Combination scenes, scheduled for mid-2025, would be nothing short of spectacular between Ranbir, Yash, and Sunny. The filmmakers are right on schedule with the shoot well on track to wrap up by August 2025 for a visual spectacle that could gross audiences worldwide.
“We are investing our hearts in the film. It is not less than a film; it’s a tribute being paid to Indian culture and storytelling on an international platform,” informed a source within the production team.
The leading announcement video is on its way, being prepared by none other than Nitesh Tiwari with his team at DNEG, giving the audience a little taste of the scale and vision of this ambitious project.
Ramayana, presented and scheduled to be released in 2026, will be a film that celebrates the triumph of good over evil with performances that will be etched in the hearts and minds of people for years to come.
